Villa - Via delle Salinelle - CefalùDescription
At the heart of the estate stands the eighteenth-century Baglio (Villa), a living testament to bygone rural life with its timeless architecture. Encircling a charming courtyard, it exudes a Mediterranean warmth through its characteristic light. Elegantly steeped in history, this structure epitomizes eighteenth-century minimalism, where simplicity and functionality blend seamlessly to create a place instantly embraced as familiar.
Overview:
On the first floor there are 2 living rooms, a studio, a dining room, a large terrace with dining table and 3 bedrooms with double beds, high ceilings and a private bathroom each.
On the ground floor, diverse units currently serve as warehouses, with one transformed into a standalone loft spanning approximately 100 m2. Complete with a bathroom and kitchen, this loft opens both on the courtyard and onto the estate with great a mandarin tree and a bougainvillea pergola, serving dual roles as an apartment or a versatile recreation space.
The Beach:
200m from the Villa, at the end of the private dirt road, shared with other 6 minor cottages, not visible from the Villa (the closest is 150m). Bordered by trees, century-old olive trees, carob, citrus and so on, you will get to the coastal dune where 10-stairs will give you access to the beach, with a great view of the Tyrrhenian coastline and one of best sunsets of Sicily.
Exteriors:
The terrace on the first floor faces the private garden below and the mountains of the Madonie natural park. A wattle canopy shades a dining table. A stone staircase descends into the private garden (also accessible from the ground floor) with the second outdoor dining table under an arch on which a vine grows, surrounded by citrus trees and an ancient oil mill. On the other side of the farmhouse you will find the pergola shaded by a wonderful bougainvillea under which there is the third outdoor dining table open onto the estate with other citrus trees and an old trough.
Interiors - First Floor:
From the courtyard, the stone staircase (15 steps) leads to the balcony of the atrium on the first floor with sitting room and marble fireplace. A door to the right leads to the first double bedroom with dressing room and bathroom. The second door on the right crosses a sitting room and arrives in the main room with a large central space and antique furnishings on the sides. A door on the left leads to the second double bedroom with balcony, dressing room and bathroom, while the door on the right leads to the third double bedroom with balcony, walk-in closet and bathroom.
Back in the atrium, the French door leads to the large terrace, while two doors on the left lead to the dining room with two balconies overlooking the olive grove and access to the terrace.
A little further, the kitchen with a balcony overlooking the courtyard and the olive grove. In the centre a marble top table, on the right two large showcases with everything for cooking and setting the table, while on the left another marble worktop with a gas hob, sink, oven, dishwasher and fridge with freezer compartment.
Interiors - Ground Floor:
Going back to the courtyard, a door on the right leads to the second kitchen: marble worktop, sink, oven, dishwasher and fridge. At the end of the kitchen, an anteroom leads to both the fourth bathroom with shower and the fourth double bedroom of 100 m2, overlooking both the courtyard and the estate with another exterior dining table under the bougainvillea pergola.
Surroundings:
Lascari (Làschiri in Sicilian) is a municipality of 3,700 inhabitants on the slopes of a modestly sized hill. Its coastline offers the famous beaches of Gorgo Lungo and Salinelle, where Villa Catalfamo resides.
Cefalù, 6km to the east, has a stunning historic centre and a wide choice of shops and restaurants. Don't miss the second most famous smile in the world, after the Mona Lisa, the Unknown Sailor by Antonello di Messina, kept in the Mandralisca Museum.
Southwards, the natural park of Madonie with historic villages like Castelbuono, a culinary destination with its unmissable panettone, that of Fiasconaro, now known throughout the world. Castelbuono, together with nearby Pollina, the town of manna, is now a Slow-Food Presidium. Visiting Castelbuono is like taking a dive into the Middle Ages, with its clean, well-kept alleys and scents of yesteryear.
